Steven Caise: Rejuvenating The Myth Of The Legend ‘Fela’

Adedotun Oluwatobiloba Adeite popularly known as Steven Caise, is a songwriter, music producer, recording & performing artist born & brought up in Lagos Nigeria. Steven Caise has always been an art lover siting the likes of the great Micheal Jackson, Sean Paul, 2face amongst others.  A very wide range of artists across different genres of music influence his sound.

Steven Caise is our cover boy of the month. He shares with us, his journey, hunger and passion for greatness in an all exclusive interview.

What first got you into music?

Ans: Growing up Becoming a superstar was always the dream. I didn’t even know how to go about it, but I just wanted to be famous. I started as a dancer, miming to different artists, especially Micheal Jackson. Started paying attention to his shows and how people loved him, so I chose music as a gateway to the life of fame. Then I made a freestyle to a beat in my university days, I didn’t even know I was recorded, the video went out & From the response I got & how I felt after doing it, I got motivated to go after it professionally.

Who inspired you to make music?

Ans: Micheal jackson, Fela, 2face, Gyptian & Sean Paul.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Ans: I’m not really looking to be boxed because I’m inspired by a whole lot of genres, but there’s always a touch of Afro in everything I do, be it pop, hip hop, R&B, reggae, ragga, dancehall, country, EDM or country music.

Tell us about your new single.

Ans: ‘Fela With The Swag’ was inspired by the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Who stood as a voice and used his music as a weapon against corruption. And the Nation’s never-ending state of poverty, lack of basic amenities & continuous shuffling of corrupt leaders.

What is your creative process like?

Ans: I really don’t have a pattern to creating, I just follow as my soul leads me. Be it 4am in the midnight, 9 at night, freestyles are my go to if I have to get my self to create.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Ans: I’m actually open to working with anyone that matches my energy, if the vibe is mind blowing & the mood is right I’m with it.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Ans: It would definitely Wizkid & Olamide.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Ans: Well, I will tell them to be patient, greatness is on the way.

What is the most useless talent you have?

Ans: I can correctly predict the end of movies before they happen. lol.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

Ans: I majorly freestyle to my own songs or relieve conversations from the past in the shower.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Ans: Acting ( which i still plan on doing), or Pyschology I’m kind of fascinated about how the human mind works.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

Ans: Positively, Afrobeats is spreading at a very rapid rate & thanks to the Internet it’s becoming a global phenomenon, the people are closer to their artists and the artists to their fans, the internet is basically bridging gaps.

What is your favourite song to perform?

Ans: At the moment, it has to be my latest single ‘Fela with the swag’.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Ans: I admire everyone at the top doing their thing, seeing made artists living their dreams really gives me the drive to keep pushing.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

Ans: Lol I’d rather not say, I’m a different person now. I’d rather not relive some memories.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Ans: That the sky is big enough for everyone to fly & greatness is a marathon not a sprint.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Ans: Creatives need to look out for each other more.

What’s next for you?

Ans: A lot, putting out my debut album this year, my first fashion film, visuals to my latest single and yeah to become the star I was destined to be.
