Creative Spotlight: Nigerian Alternative Rapper, Femi R releases EP

Afro-swing rapper, Femi R releases his debut project titled The Brown Boy Tape

Prolific by nature, Femi R doesn’t abide by the traditional music genre of Rap. The four-song EP produced by BLY was released at midnight on Friday, March 26, featuring two guest verses from Bly and Damilfice. He does an excellent job of creating a project that his thriving fanbase can enjoy any day of the week, with his lyrics thoughtful and deep-seethed.

About Femi R

Femi R, born Oluwafemi Adelekan, is a Nigerian Songwriter, Lyricist and Rap artiste whose songs cut across various genres of music including hip hop, alternative rap and afro-swing. He is a final-year student at the University of Lagos. He is also a Graphics/UI/UX designer, Photographer, Model and Playlist Curator.

Femi R’s love for rap was ignited after listening to songs by Lil Wayne when he was a child. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as a talented rapper with a unique style of music influenced by Nigerian hip-hop legends M.I Abaga, Show Dem Camp (SDC) and Ladipoe. In February 2018, Femi R released his debut single titled Confessions and followed it up with his sophomore track called Bad Grades a few months later. In 2019, Femi R teamed up with ace Nigerian singers Zaki and Damilfice to produce Crazy and For Life, respectively. He went on to release a two-track playlist ‘PILOT’ which includes Crazy and a cover of J. Cole’s 2013 hit song featuring Kendrick Lamar, Forbidden Fruit.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Femi R created ‘I Put You On’ on Instagram, a program designed to introduce music fans to underground/non-mainstream artists. To augment the songs by these artistes, he curated a monthly updated playlist called ‘The New Skool Cruise Playlist’ which can be found on digital music platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Boomplay, YouTube Music, Deezer and Audiomack. In 2021, Femi R released his debut project, an E.P titled The Brown Boy Tape in collaboration with BLY and Damilfice. All tracks on the project were produced by BLY and mixed and mastered by One Yeye Family for Engine House.
