AFRIFF 2025 — the 14th Africa International Film Festival — opened in Lagos on November 2, 2025, with a breathtaking ceremony filled with glamour, artistry, and emotional tributes.
The event took place at Mikano, Victoria Island, and featured a dazzling red carpet. Guests also enjoyed the exclusive screening of “3 Cold Dishes” at The Royal Box, Cube 65, within the same venue.




AFRIFF 2025: A Night of Glamour and African Creativity
This year’s theme, “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeats Film Movement,” highlights the vibrant connection between African music and cinema.



The red carpet sparkled with Nollywood stars and cultural icons. Among them were Osas Ighodaro, Rita Dominic, Waje, Kunle Remi, Segun Arinze, Michelle Dede, Omowunmi Dada, Mike Afolarin, Denrele Edun, Salami Rotimi, Ruth Kadiri, Nikos Living, Tunde Onakoya, Asurf Oluseyi, and Wale Ojo.













Meanwhile, popular comedian and actor Bovi hosted the ceremony, entertaining guests with his wit and charm.
Emotional Tributes and the Herbert Wigwe Award for Excellence
A touching tribute honored the late Herbert Wigwe, celebrated for his excellence, leadership, and philanthropy.
A video highlighting his legacy drew heartfelt applause. Afterwards, the Herbert Wigwe Award for Excellence was presented to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. His Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, accepted it on his behalf.
Even more moving, Mr. Wigwe’s father personally presented the award.
Representing the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, also received the same award on his behalf.
In addition, the Minister presented a framed art portrait of Chioma Ude, AFRIFF’s Founder and CEO, recognizing her outstanding contribution to African cinema.
David Oyelowo Honored for Global Storytelling
Award-winning actor and filmmaker David Oyelowo, alongside his wife Jessica Oyelowo, also received an AFRIFF Award for Excellence.
This honor celebrated his remarkable work in promoting African stories on the global stage.
Opening Film “3 Cold Dishes” Receives Standing Ovation
The night concluded with the screening of “3 Cold Dishes.” It was directed by Asurf Oluseyi and co-executive produced by Burna Boy and Osas Ighodaro.
The film follows three women from Nigeria, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire who survive human trafficking. Years later, they reunite to seek justice.
The powerful story received a standing ovation, setting the tone for an inspiring festival week.

AFRIFF: A Platform for African Filmmakers
Since its founding in 2010 by Chioma Ude, AFRIFF has become one of Africa’s leading film festivals. It provides space for collaboration, training, and global exchange among filmmakers.
This year introduces the AFRIFF Film and Content Market (AFCM) — a new platform linking filmmakers, investors, distributors, and digital creators.
Moreover, AFRIFF 2025 features screenings, masterclasses, panel discussions, and networking sessions aimed at strengthening African creativity and visibility in the global film industry.
