As the founder of Chess in Slums, Tunde Onakoya is determined to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon chess play, extending the previous record by an additional 2 hours. This surpasses the previous record of 56 hours, achieved by Hallvard Flatebo and Sjur Ferkingstad in Norway in 2018.

While Tunde cherishes the prospect of achieving this feat, his primary goal is to raise $100,000 for the Chessinslums initiative. The attempt began on April 17, 2024, and is scheduled to conclude on April 19.

Tunde has already surpassed the 30-hour mark without being defeated, even by New York’s top chess master, Shawn Martinez. Many Nigerians in New York City and beyond have visited the square to show their support for Tunde, and additional support from Nigerians is being felt online. Furthermore, Tunde has received encouraging messages from current and former Nigerian vice president, Kashim Shettima and Yemi Osibajo.

Two hours into the marathon, Tunde was reportedly tired and had taken a total of 30 minutes in breaks, with an allocated 5 minutes per hour. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Chess in Slums and the Nigerian community as a whole, following the recent record-breaking achievement by Nigerian Hilda Baci.

The Barbie Premiere in Nigeria was an extravagant and highly anticipated event that took place in the heart of Lagos. Nigeria’s bustling entertainment capital. 

Nigerian celebrities from the entertainment industry, such as actors, musicians, and influencers. Fashion designers and stylists who draw inspiration from Barbie’s iconic style all came for the great event.

Rolling out the purple carpet and pulling out all of the stops, all of the style stars, aka Barbies and Kens stepped into their pink, and glittery outfits for the Lagos event. While the official dress code was Barbie Glam Galore themed, some attendees, in typical Nigerian fashion, put their unique spin on it. The carpet witnessed a stunning parade of fashion creativity and individuality.

  The premiere party welcomed an array of notable figures, especially from the Big Brother Naija circle. Including Idia Aisien, Liquorose, Sheggz, Modella, Tacha, Groovy, Pretty Mike, James brown Hilda Baci and many others.

Hilda’s Cook-a-thon started on the 11th of May at 4:20 pm. And ended on the 15th of May at 8:40 pm. During the Cookathon, Hilda prepared over 200 meals served to over 4,000 people.

Some of the highlights of the event were the devotion of Nigerians who came to support Hilda under the rain and sunshine, cheering and praying as she powered through the attempt. A Message from the President of Nigeria; President Muhammadu Buhari on social media to congratulate and encourage her.

A call from the Vice President of Nigeria; Professor Yemi Osinbajo.A courtesy visit from the Ooni of Ife’s youngest wife. Also, a call from the incoming, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno. Visit from celebrities and famous personalities including Tiwa Savage, Kate Henshaw, Shawn Faqua, Dremo, Charles Okocha, Segun Arinze, Sisi Yemmie, Diary of a Kitchen Lover, Ify Mogekwu, Timi Dakolo and Enioluwa, Gina Ojo, Aphro Dija, amongst others.

There was also a visitation from the children of Festus Fajemilo Foundation; a non-governmental organisation, raising awareness about hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida.

Some of the highlights from day 3 of Hilda’s cookathon was the yoga class in the morning. Facilitated by Tobe Ifeanyi, A speech from Hilda’s mum at 47 hours when Hilda needed morevation.  Hilda’s mom is the owner of Calabar Pot, one of the top restaurants in Abuja. 

Over the night, 58 hours into the cookathon a group of traditional Efik dancers came to support Hilda dressed in traditional dancing gear. Media personality Enioluwa, hyped and prayed with the crowd in the middle of the night.
