DJ Switch, whose real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh is a Nigerian DJ, songwriter, and musician. In 2013, DJ Switch rose as the winner of the first edition of The Glo X-Factor. What people of the public didn’t know was that DJ Switch is a fearless hero. With the rise of the #EndSars movement where Nigerians are just begging to be given basic human rights and not be killed, we have seen DJ Switch take the forefront and champion the peaceful protest.
20th September 2020 was a bloody day in the History of Nigeria. A 4 pm curfew was announced by noon and everyone including peaceful protesters were forced to make their way through the uptight traffic of Lagos. Everyone who knows the hustle and bustle of Lagos, Nigeria is aware that even a quarter of the population can’t get home by that time. Like a joke, the Nigerian government sent the Nigeran Army with tankers and all forms of ammunitions to kill innocent peaceful protesters who were unharmed holding placards and the Nigeran flag. These protesters were sitting on the floor, and singing the national anthem when they were shot at.
Several lives were lost due to the constant shoot out. The morning after the 20th of October 2020, the military was still shooting at peaceful protesters. However, DJ Switch took bravery and still kept the people informed. She has been the main reason people all over the world have footages and evidence of what is currently happening in Nigeria. She is a leader who since the horrific killing of peaceful protesters has led other protesters to shelter and hospitals which have been provided by kind Nigerians. Even when everyone is backing down, she is still at the forefront currently championing the reformation of Nigeria. Dj Switch is many things and more, but one of the things you can’t deny is that she is a fearless hero.
20th October 2020 would forever be in our hearts.
