Banana bread is sumptuous and yet simple to make. It is so simple you cannot even try to make much ado about it. You do not need a lot of kitchen ‘gadgets’ to prepare banana bread. And the primary ingredient? Bananas that are too ripe for the looks or the palette. You know them right? Those ones that have brownish-black skin but are still healthy on the inside. In essence, the banana is still good, just that you do not feel like you can stomach them just the way they are. Pardon please, not the spoiled or rotten bananas.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients and steps needed to get this banana bread ‘ready to serve’.
Ingredients
- 3 bananas slightly overripe
- 120 grams butter
- 1/2 cup sugar or more as desired
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp of baking soda
- 2 medium eggs
- 65 ml water
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp of salt
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), and lubricate the insides of your loaf pan with melted butter.
- Cream the butter and sugar until smooth and creamy
- Beat the eggs, one at a time (be mindful of spoilt eggs)
- Sieve the flour and mix it with salt.
- Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the water
- In a large bowl, mash ripe bananas to your desired texture. Some people like it smooth while others prefer it mashed into little chunks with a fork.
- Add the creamed butter and sugar into the bowl. Then, add the beaten eggs. Stir to mix well.
- Mix in the combined flour and salt and the dissolved baking soda.
- Finally, add the baking soda and mix the entire contents of the bowl thoroughly. Pour contents into the lubricated loaf pan and put into the preheated oven.’
Next Steps
- Allow baking for about 45-minutes. Confirm that the batter has cooked through by sticking a toothpick into the bowl. If the toothpick comes out clean, then the banana bread is done.
- Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to rest for about 5-minutes. After that, remove the banana bread from the pan and allow it to cool down completely before slicing.
Note: Do not attempt to play around with hot banana bread, unless you are very sure you know what you’re doing. If you do, you’ll be left with banana bread crumbs.
Slice and serve your sumptuous banana bread when it has cooled down.
