There may be some people (obviously God’s favorites) who don’t need a regimented skincare routine to look as fresh as the morning dew. Unfortunately, neither you nor I, are one of them. We need to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize and tone with the right products to get that dewy look. Sometimes, your normal regimen isn’t enough and you have to support it with a face mask.
There are many types of face masks with many purposes but what all of them have in common is a tendency to be a little expensive. There are face treatments you can get for NGN3000 but you’ll probably feel iffy about the quality The really good face masks can cost up to NGN12000. That’s enough for several products. Plus, it may be finished after a few uses.
But what if we told you that you can easily make a mask that works just as well with your blender, a tablespoon, a teaspoon, some fruit, and other ingredients from your kitchen? Amazing, right?
Today, we’ll be sharing with you the recipes for five homemade face masks. As long as you have the required ingredients, none of these should take you more than five minutes to make.
#1: Oatmeal Face Mask for Oily Skin
Excessively oily skin can be a huge problem for many people especially in warm climates like Nigeria. The weather is hot almost every day, which stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce even more oil so your skin isn’t harmed by the sun’s UV rays.
Unfortunately, this protection comes at the price of your smooth skin. Oily skin is prone to acne because the extra oil might cause dirt to build up in your pores. You can combat this by using this oatmeal face mask twice a week.
What You’ll Need:
- Two tablespoons of cooked but cooled oats
- One egg
- One lemon
Did you know that egg contains every vitamin except C? Lemon is a natural cleanser. Its alpha-hydroxy acids help to lift dirt and clean the pores. But it can be a little harsh so the oatmeal is there to soothe and moisturize your skin.
#2: Turmeric Face Mask for Glowing Skin
What You’ll Need:
- A tablespoon of turmeric
- Two teaspoons of milk
- One lemon
Turmeric has been touted as a skin brightener for centuries. Lemon works to cleanse the skin and its astringent quality also makes it a skin brightener but in a lesser capacity. The milk is the moisturizer in this face mask, but if you don’t have that, you can use honey instead.
#3: Avocado for Dry Skin
What You’ll Need:
- One avocado
- A tablespoon of honey
- One tablespoon of yoghurt
- A tablespoon of olive oil
Avocado is chock-full of omega fatty acids which can help heal cracked skin. The other ingredients contain soothing qualities that help lock in moisture when used in a face mask.
#4: Banana for Acne
What You’ll Need:
- One banana
- Half teaspoon of turmeric
- Half teaspoon of baking soda
- Optional: A teaspoon of lemon juice
Vitamin A keeps your pores clean and banana has lots of it. Turmeric has anti-bacterial properties and baking soda can help you get rid of excess oil. Lemon can also help clean your pores but this optional ingredient can make the mixture a bit harsh for sensitive skin types.
If you feel that your skin is too dry after this treatment, you can use a honey mask to add moisture.
#5: Aloe Vera for Sun Scorched Skin
What You’ll Need:
- One aloe vera branch
- One teaspoon of honey
The combination of both these ingredients can moisturize the skin and heal damage from overexposing your skin to harmful UV rays.
