Questions To Help You Declutter Your Closet

Closet? What’s that? I don’t even own a wardrobe. Even if all you own is a mini box of clothes, there comes a time when you need to de-clutter, I call it fashion maturity. Hoarding items for sentimental reasons is a huge deal and fashion items are part of it too. If it isn’t gold or diamond, it can be de-cluttered.

You know you need to declutter when you have clothes you do not wear anymore or you’ve never worn. It doesn’t mean that item is useless, it just means it’s not for you. You can give it out to stylist’s storage, donate it for charity causes, or call a stylist to know what to make do of it.

Now you know you are due for declutter, and you don’t know where to start, we’ve got help questions for you.

Separating clothes for de-cluttering is the hardest step, looking through each clothing and remembering how much it was worth, it hurts but you have to do it anyway. To screen your clothes for de-cluttering, here are helpful questions to make the screening process easier.

1) Do you love it/ Do you wear it?

This question is a two-part question and a feel-good question especially the do you love it part, you must have loved it to buy it. But do you wear it? If you’ve never worn it, it reflects the level of love you have for the item. Maybe what you liked was the idea of loving it. Maybe you bought it because it was trending, not because it is your style.

2) Does this cloth piece fit? Do I feel comfortable wearing it? Would it ever fit?

Come on in your hearts of heart, you know you may never be that thin or big again. Don’t even start with the I’ll pass it to my kids story. Unless it’s vintage super quality and relevant, what makes you think your kids would ever take the clothing item? What makes you think, it would fit your kid’s clothing size? Fitting also means this clothing, shoe, jewelry is comfortable when you wear it. Are they hoops that drag your earring holes like you are bearing the weight of the world, or are the clothes too heavy, is the shoe heel too high for you that it shakes, is the zipper one that itches, does the material irritate your skin? So you may love it, but it would never fit, why then do we still have it collecting the yearly dust of your wardrobe? You may love it but it’s super uncomfortable for you, why do we have it dancing around your eyes?

3) Does it match my current brand?

People advance and their style changes with age and the position they find themselves in. If all you had was a trashy style and now you’re a classic fashionista, what are those trashy pieces still doing in your possession? Unless you want to go back in time to bring your former style star, you should send them off to a new owner, or a bin bag.

4) Has it expired?

Yes most materials do especially when dewy, or moldy or has stained, you find out with time those materials can only be thrown away, so yes even if you’ve never worn it, throw it away.

The thing with de-cluttering is that you find more space to bring in new things and focus on what you really love. You see things daily and it helps you be more organized. If you have a wardrobe free of clutter, your what do I wear stress would be less as you would see what is more of your style and the things you want to wear.
