Leading Vibe Initiative is the newest, groundbreaking project by global Nigerian music star Tems aimed at empowering and mentoring young African women in the music industry. The initiative officially launched in July 2025 and is set to offer female creatives across the continent access to vital resources, mentorship, and industry tools that will shape the next generation of music leaders.
Tems, known for her soulful voice and global hits like “Essence” and “Love Me JeJe,” created the Leading Vibe Initiative to bridge the gender gap in music. “I didn’t have many female mentors coming up. That’s why I want to be that support for the next wave of women in music,” she said during the launch announcement.
What the Leading Vibe Initiative Offers:
- Mentorship and Masterclasses with top female and male music professionals
- Music Production Workshops in partnership with Native Instruments
- Creative Labs to help women hone their songwriting, producing, and performance skills
- Networking Opportunities with industry leaders and creatives across Africa
The first official program will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, from August 8–9, 2025. It is open to Nigerian women aged 18–35 who are working in or aspiring to work in music. Applications are open via leadingvibe.com until July 13.
Addressing Gender Inequality in Music
Tems’ initiative is a direct response to the global and local underrepresentation of women in the music industry. Studies show that only 22% of artists, 12.8% of songwriters, and 3% of producers globally are women. The Leading Vibe Initiative aims to dismantle these barriers in Africa by providing access, opportunity, and representation.
Tems: Leading the Vibe Beyond the Music
In 2025 alone, Tems made history as the first Nigerian artist to win two Grammys. As well as the first African woman to co-own a U.S. pro sports team. Her influence spans music, culture, and now mentorship, with the Leading Vibe Initiative at the center of her mission to uplift women.
This isn’t just a project. It’s a movement.
