Do you feel exhausted after sitting at work all day? If you do, it goes to show that a physically active lifestyle is far better than a passive one. Recent studies have shown that adding just an extra 5 to 10 minutes of walking daily could prevent early death and promote longevity in most people.

When we talk about walking, we do not really mean a leisurely walk. Although, a relaxed stroll can be counted as exercise and physical activity. We are actually talking about walking briskly, or in a way that all your muscles feel the exertion. In addition, a more beneficial walk would have you short of breath for a few minutes. When you engage in fast walking or brisk walking, it should raise your heart rate and have you sweating.

Benefits of Walking

  1. It helps to relieve stiff joints and muscles by promoting proper lubrication. This means that walking can actually help prevent or improve osteoporosis and arthritis.
  2. By activating cardiovascular muscles to fitness, walking helps prevent or reduce cardiovascular diseases.
  3. Walking helps us burn fat and maintain optimum body weight by encouraging proper metabolism and digestion. Surprisingly, it also reduces cravings.
  4. The American Cancer Society led a study that showed that women who walked more had a 14% lower chance of getting breast cancer. Some other studies have also revealed that there is a positive relationship between walking actively and a reduced risk of other forms of cancer.
  5. It reduces the risks of Diabetes and improves the immune system generally.
  6. Walking as a form of exercise triggers and balances hormones in the body. It reduces stress hormones, improving mental health.

If you do not have time to walk for at least 5 to 10 minutes daily, you may want to make time for it starting today. It will be more beneficial to share your break time and use some of it to walk. You may decide to walk briskly while attending to various tasks in the house. For instance, walk briskly to the toilet or the kitchen, walk fast to your car, etc. As much as possible, reduce the amount of time you spend sitting or lying down.

A little walk is fine, more walking is better, but more fast walking or brisk walking is best to keep you fit, improve your mental health and promote longevity. If for any reason you cannot walk, any form of relatively vigorous exercise for at least 10 minutes daily will do just fine. Walk More, Exercise More for longer healthier life.

Asexuality is an orientation, not a choice, unlike celibacy. Neither does it require treatment like a sexual disorder would.

My first time learning about asexuality was as a teenager. At that time, all that stuck was asexuality equals hating sex. Imagine my surprise when I found this not to be totally true. Honestly, ‘mo fo!’* What is true however is that asexuality is a sexual orientation, and a spectrum with a lot of range.

More often than not, asexuality has been defined as the lack of sexual attraction. This careless definition further allows for the misconception of asexuals or aces. In reality, asexuals or aces can be anywhere on the spectrum, ranging from not wanting anything to do with sex to having romantic partners, sexual partners, and even children. The spectrum of asexuality contains much diversity in people’s experiences of attraction, arousal, and desires for relationships, as new discoveries are uncovered as time goes by. Hence, achieving a consensual definition may be a mirage. 

Asexuality, Celibacy, And Sexual Disorders. 

We have already established that these terms aren’t synonymous. With celibacy, not having sex on whatever grounds is a choice that people choose based on certain information or lack thereof. This doesn’t mean that you’re not sexually attracted to people, you just chose to cover your genitalia with The Blood of Jesus & that is valid. 

On the other hand, not having sex due to a disorder isn’t exactly a choice, it’s a problem that needs treatment. 

You cannot celibate or treat your way into or out of asexuality.

The population of people on earth is in billions, we can’t all experience life in the same ways. It is absurd that the world assumes that everyone feels a sexual attraction.

USA TODAY spoke with Catherine Esperanza, an asexual and doctoral student in school psychology. I find her definition of asexuality to be apt. She says:

“It’s a spectrum. It can vary in terms of what that lack of sexual attraction means. It could be a total lack of sexual attraction, or sometimes it’s only in certain contexts that you actually experience it. Like, for example, being demisexual you only experience it after developing a deep, emotional bond. If you identify as graysexual maybe sometimes you experience it, and other times you don’t. But broadly it’s a sexual orientation related to a lack of consistent sexual attraction, which is different from sexual behavior or sexual desire or libido, which you can have even if you’re asexual.”

How Do I Check To Know If I Am? 

  • Do you find other people sexy — in a way that makes you feel sexual desire or arousal, or a way that makes you think sex or sexual touching with that person would be satisfying (regardless of whether you’d actually do it)? If you don’t feel this with anyone, you may be asexual.
  • Do you develop sexual attraction every once in a while, but don’t find its pursuit or satisfaction intrinsically rewarding? Some people would call that asexual.
  • Do you think having sex (or the idea of having sex) is okay, but not very interesting or important? Could you take it or leave it, and find leaving it more convenient or preferable? Some people would call that asexual.
  • Do you feel sexual attraction sometimes, but only rarely? You may be on the asexual spectrum.
  • Do you sometimes develop sexual attraction when you’ve already developed other important connections with someone, but never feel sexually attracted to strangers, celebrities, or mere acquaintances? You may be on the asexual spectrum.

An immeasurable aspect of our health can be affected by our sexual health. According to the American Sexual Health Association sexual health is “the ability to embrace and enjoy our sexuality throughout our lives. ” This shows that sexual health is a valuable part of life.

World over, sex, sexuality and conversations around sexual health is still a taboo subject in many cultures. However, for us to thrive as humans, our sexual wellbeing is just as important as physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. In addition, love, affection, and sexual intimacy contribute to healthy relationships and individual well-being.

Below are ways that can help navigate what being sexually healthy means:

  • Being able to enjoy a healthier body, satisfying sexual life, positive relationships, and peace of mind.
  • Understanding that sexuality is a natural part of life and involves more than sexual behavior.
  • Recognizing and respecting the sexual rights we all share.
  • Having access to sexual health information, education, and care.
  • Making an effort to prevent unintended pregnancies and STIs.
  • Seeking care and treatment when needed.
  • Being able to experience sexual pleasure, satisfaction, and intimacy when desired.
  • Being able to communicate about sexual health with others including sexual partners and healthcare providers.

Towards Better Sexual Health

We have come to terms with the fact that sexuality is an integral part of being human. But along with the positive aspects of our human sexuality, there also are illnesses, mixed emotions and unintended consequences that can affect our sexual health. An open discussion of sexuality issues is important to promoting sexual health and responsibility. Below are action steps to ensuring better sexual wellness;

Value yourself and decide what’s right for you: While sex is a natural part of life, the decision of if and when you have sex is solely yours. It is important that the decision aligns with what you want in life, including personal goals, desires, and boundaries. All of which may change depending on your stage in life, being fully aware of your desires, and true to yourself will help you navigate the different stages.

Know your body and protect it: Understand your own body and its functions. Don’t be afraid to explore ways you can express yourself sexually. Always, practice safe sex to protect against STIs/STDs and unintended pregnancies.

Build positive relationships: Having open and honest conversations about your relationship, desires, and sexual health will help you and your partner(s) build respect for one another, as well as make decisions together. Discuss any health problems openly and you should feel comfortable seeking medical care if need be. If you find yourself with violent partner(s) or who pressure you into things you aren’t comfortable with, seek help from your healthcare provider or a community organization right away.

Treat your partners well and expect them to treat you well: Be with someone or people who make you feel good about yourself, as well as comfortable and safe. Any boundaries should be respected, and no one should feel pressured or forced into doing something they aren’t comfortable with.

Adopt sexual healthcare routine: Start with a provider who is respectful and makes you feel comfortable, as it will allow you to feel more at ease having otherwise difficult conversations. You should be able to discuss any questions or concerns you may have regarding your sexual health, including performance and function.

Waking up to a puffy face can be a bit of an inconvenience and somewhat frightening too. A lot of things run through your mind, especially with no apparent injury or underlying conditions that you may know of. Not to worry, a few quick tips can help your face bounce back, but first, we would discuss why you may be waking up to a bloated face.

Some reasons why you may be waking up to a bloated face:

1. Late Night Snacks or Foods.

It’s general knowledge that late night foods can be detrimental and harmful to our body system.

The Human Digestive system stops performing its duty before the latter times, so any food taken after that time automatically fights against the human system instead of benefitting it.

When you consume food or snacks at odd hours of the night, your face might just be paying for the consequences.

  • Avoid eating late at night. All foods should be prepared and eaten before 7 pm so that you give the body enough time to digest.
  • Also, you must stop consuming dense foods at night. Some diets take a longer time to digest. So consuming this heavy load of feed before retiring might not only just be harmful; they could make you uncomfortable.

2. Consumption of Oily Snacks and Foods.

Even though this is dependent on individual body systems, consumption of oily foods during the day or before bedtime can lead to a swollen face in the morning.

You must take note of what you consume because some snacks or foods might just be a bloated welcome face song. Even if you must eat oily foods, accompany it with sufficient ways to aid easier digestion. 

3. Reaction to Drugs e.g Penicillin.

It is wholly dependent on the body system. Some antibiotics, when taken at night, have side effects, which would be noticed duly in the morning. It is one of the major causes of bloated faces. 

4. Wrong Sleeping Posture.

We cannot overstress this point. While you might wake up with a throbbing head, a puffy face is sure to follow suit. When sleeping, you should sleep in a very comfortable position, preferably on your bed. Sleeping on the couch, leaning against a wall, and other wrong sleeping postures always have after-effects. Also, having too many pillows around could affect a good sleep. Lastly, sleeping late will undoubtedly lead to a bloated face.

How do I correct a bloated face and make it beautiful again?

Since a bloated morning face could hinder our normal activities, there are simple and easy ways to correct it.

  • Wash your face: Splashing lukewarm water on your face would be just the perfect idea to reduce a swollen face.
  • Facial Massage: Using your palm, massage the whole face generally.
  • Drink water: water is life, they say; So take advantage of it. Drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning. It will aid in flushing out undigested food and waste products.
  • If it persists, see an experienced Doctor.

So many factors affect and reduce the quality of our pictures when uploaded on Instagram, they include;

  • Pixel or resolution image count: It’s advisable you use high resolution images, minimum of 150 x 150 resolution size. To be on a safer side, it’s important you go for 640 resolution size, it’s the best fit.
  • Rename the picture to bear the ‘jpg image’, especially if it has extra characters.

  1. Embrace Light: Photography experts have revealed that natural lights are best recommended. Understanding this first concept is the best and most important rule. Quarantine season is upon us as the coronavirus aka COVID-19 made sure of that. Outside, the coronavirus, there have been seasons especially with the Ebola breakout that we have had to as a world, apply quarantine. Quarantine could sometimes be an individual task due to personal health conditions, stress, among others. Whatever the case may be, if you are at home practicing quarantine and you are unsure of what to do, especially as an active extrovert, I have put together some possible activities that would help you have fun, be active and most importantly, stay safe from the virus.

1) COOK: It doesn’t matter if you are a perfect cook, or you get to throw the result of your cooking process into the bin. The goal is that you made yourself active, and maybe tried new things. If your cooking turned out great, beautiful. If it didn’t, at least you did learn what not to do, and you can always try again. To make it more exciting, cook something new that works with your budget. Your goal could be: I want to set up a candlelight dinner for myself. So you cook the meal, set up the table, clean up, dress nice, take pictures, eat, unwind, call your friends or family while at it, have a dance with yourself and call it a day. That way you had fun and you stayed safe.

2) PLAY GAMES: From board games to video games on your devices, you could always chill out from the quarantine comfort of your home. If you want to play with your boys or girls; then you are in luck as technology has made it so easy for you to compete with other people, especially when playing live online games. Find the games that you love, pick your competitors, and show them how it is done. Have your water, wine, snacks, food beside you while you are at it to refuel your energy level. You know you can never tell how long you will be stuck on that game, so you need something nice to replenish yourself while at it.

3) READ A BOOK: It is okay for you to learn something new, or hear new stories during your quarantine period. So finishing on a book you’ve started, or attempting to read a book isn’t a bad idea. It could be an ebook, audiobook, or a hard copy. It could be in any genre you love: memoirs, romance tales, health, just basically what your mood is at that moment, it helps. If you are also in a book club, it would help a great deal.

4) WATCH A MOVIE: If you have a cinema at your home, make it extra, do the popcorn thing, drink, candy, you name it. If all you have is your little TV, laptop, or phone, then make the most o fit as well, you also need snacks. You could schedule a generic viewing time with your friends, then talk about the movie later on in a conference call. Confused on what to watch: Netflix, Showmax, apple tv and the rest have you covered. 

5) PARTY: Put on your favorite playlist, you have apple music, boomplay, Spotify and the rest to help you with that, Have your party cup, you can go extra and decorate your space for a party, then have fun. You could also invite your friends to join you in an internet party. So there’s this thing this period where Djs are hosting a life party on Instagram live. This happened with DJ D-NICE where he hosted a viral quarantine party. Naomi Campbell was a part @DNICE insta-live party. Jlo, Drake, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Will Smith Diddy, DJ Khaled, Usher, Mary.J.Blige, Queen Latifah, among others were a part of the party too. Imagine having to party with the stars for free, and jive to the same music/ vibe as them sounds pretty good to me. I mean, what could beat partying with Naomi, the ultimate socialite/ Supermodel?

6) SOCIAL MEDIA: If you feel out of space and need to state thoughts from your meditations or your curiosity, there are diverse global platforms you could use to connect with different people all over the world. If you have anxiety over the quarantine period, seeing what others are doing during this period could help you feel calm and safer.

7) CREATE: It is very easy to be lazy during this period. But you need to balance it out. If you are a creative, this is the time to be buzzing with content ideas. This is the time for anyone to come up with that idea, write that business plan, write out that promotion pitch for your boss… There’s so much to do before the crazy doors to the world are opened again, so do it.

8) REST: The period after any quarantine is a lot. SO you need a lot of rest, as when life is back to normal, you may have to work thrice as hard to cover up for the times you were absent. So you need this time out to rest, replenish, exercise, meditate and be happy.
